The Warner Robins Housing Authority intends to give away 2,000 backpacks filled with school supplies this Friday.
According to the agency, the giveaway is part of its annual July Bash. The backpacks are free to any child who needs it, not only those in Warner Robins.
Executive Director of the Warner Robins Housing Authority Sheryl Frazier said about 40 volunteers showed up last week to help stuff the bags.
"We stuff them with supplies from elementary, middle school, and high school so we have all three groups. So we have bags for each educational level," said Frazier.
She says volunteers plan on doing more than giving away backpacks. They will give free haircuts to students, face painting, free food. There will also be a moon bounce house.
"People can bring their children out and then spend the day enjoying the activities," said Frazier.
The event starts at 9 A.M. but Frazier says those who want book bags should come early.
"Start coming that way around eight because normally we start setting up and people are already in line," said Frazier.
The July Bash will be held at McConnell Talbert Stadium in Warner Robins.
