What we know about I-16/I-75 Interchange

If you travel on the I-16 / I-75 Interchange, the Department of Transportation is asking drivers to be on the lookout for some major changes this week.

Starting Monday, GDOT crews will be working near traffic lanes on the interstate during the day.

NOW

Contractors are still working in three construction sites, but their main focus this week is working near travel lanes on the I-16 and I-75 interchange.

They're asking drivers to slow down and pay attention to road signs. Here's a look at the construction schedule this week.

On Monday and Tuesday, crews will stripe the temporary pavement section between I-16 east and west before the split.

They will also install a storm drain between the split and mile post point 0.5.

From Wednesday to Friday, crews will lay temporary pavement on a section of the eastbound exit ramp and the westbound entrance ramp at MLK Blvd.

COMING UP and YOUR COMMUTE

Starting next Monday, the state is closing the Spring Street entrance ramp to I-16 eastbound for the next two years.

You can use the I-16 entrance ramp at MLK BLVD as a detour.

Some drivers like Jeffery Harrison say their main concern is traffic delays.

“It's going to be a mess,” said Harrison. “Why would you do something like that when the traffic is already bad?”

GDOT originally planned to close both I-16 entrance and exit ramps on Spring Street, but after meeting with the contractor, GDOT decided to close just the I-16 on ramp to help minimize the impact.
