Westside student killed in Washington Co. wreck

A Westside High School student was killed in a car accident Saturday in Washington County.

The crash occurred at about 11:43 p.m. on Hwy. 24. Killed was Shi'Kemmia Glover, 17, a junior at Westside who was a cheerleader and a member of the varsity basketball team.

According to Georgia State Patrol, Glover was driving in a construction zone traveling west on Hwy. 24. As she exited the north shoulder, Glover over corrected her steering driving back across the highway striking a small embankment sending the vehicle airborne, according to the GSP.

The vehicle flipped several times and Glover, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle landing in a small pond, according to the GSP. The vehicle landed vertical in a tree.

The passenger was wearing a seatbelt and was momentarily trapped in the car. She was able to escape the car and flag down a passing motorist who called 911. The passenger was flown by helicopter to a Macon hospital where she was treated with non life threatening injuries.
