Wilkinson Co. investigating high school teacher, coach for 'inappropriate' conduct

A Wilkinson County High School teacher is on leave while the district investigates whether he had improper communications with a student.

Superintendent Aaron Geter would not describe the complaint against Ryan Jackson any further and said he is still awaiting a final report on the case.

The school's website says Jackson has taught for 17 years and currently teaches biology, British literature and physical science.

The website also says Jackson is an assistant basketball coach. Geter, the superintendent, is also the head coach.

We could not reach Wilkinson County Sheriff Richard Chatman for comment on the case.

But John Grant, chief investigator for the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, says the state board will decide next month whether to conduct their own investigation. The state licenses the state's public educators.

Grant said the Wilkinson school district filed a complaint on Nov. 8 concerning Jackson.

He would not describe the complaint. But he says the state board will almost always vote to investigate allegations of inappropriate behavior.
