CORRECTION: The Monroe County school district made AYP for the fourth straight year, not the second straight year.
More schools in Bibb County have met Adequate Yearly Progress compared to this time last year, but the school district as a whole did not make Adequate Yearly Progress once again.According to the Georgia Department of Education website, 19 of the county's 41 schools met AYP, that's 46 percent. But Bruce Giroux with Bibb County Schools says that number is an increase over this time last year, when only 14 schools met AYP.
Giroux expects this summer's numbers to rise even more. Last fall, after CRCT retests and summer graduations were factored in, 26 schools made the final AYP report. He anticipates more schools to make AYP when new numbers come out this fall.
As of right now, none of the county's high schools met AYP. Eight schools that made AYP last year dropped off the list for 2009: Appling Middle, Burghard Elementary, Carter Elementary, Howard Middle School, Riley Elementary School, Rosa Taylor Elementary, Union Elementary, and Weaver Middle School.
But four schools that didn't make AYP a year ago did better so far this year: Bernd Elementary, Burdell Elementary, Morgan Elementary, and Skyview Elementary School all joined the AYP list for 2009.
The schools are measured on test scores and academic performance.
