A Laurens County man drowned while swimming in the Oconee River Saturday.

State Department of Natural Resources spokesman Rick Lavender identified the victim as 58-year-old Armando Juarez Plaza.

It happened near the Shady Field Boat Ramp area.

He said Plaza was swimming with three other people, became tired and disappeared under the water.

He said Plaza's body was found soon after. He said Plaza lived in the Cadwell community of Laurens County.
