Macon chamber chairman resigns after federal indictment

A Macon businessman charged with defrauding the Bibb County school district has reisgned as chamber of commerce chairman.

Isaac Culver resigned Wednesday, according to a news release from the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce.

A federal grand jury on Tuesday indicted Culver, Dave Carty and thieir business, Progressive Consulting Technologies Inc.

They're each charged with conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud, 10 counts of wire fraud, one count of mail fraud and money laundering.

The pair are accused of conspiring to sell the Bibb County school district more than $3.7 million in computers and support services that was worth less than half that. The computers didn't work because Culver and Carty did not provide key components, like monitors and keyboards.

Those computers still sit unused in a Bibb County warehouse.

No trial date has been set.

The chamber says former chairman George Greer will take over in Culver's place.
