Medical Marijuana dies in the General Assembly

The medical marijuana battle has ended. Lawmakers called Sine Die at the stroke of midnight. State Representative Allen Peake of Macon, who pushed long and hard for the bill, apologized to families with children suffering from seizures seeking help after the bill failed to pass. House Speaker Dennis Ralston blasted the senate saying "senators would rather make speeches than take care of Georgia's children."

The bill passed out of the Senate unanimously this afternoon but could not make it over a final hurdle before the midnight deadline.

State Senator Rene Unterman, chairman of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee, blames the house, saying they should have passed it the way it was approved in the Senate. She says it wouldn't be fair to help some kids and not others, and if the House had just agreed to the bill that passed the unanimous vote, it would have been fine.
