The head of Unadilla's Public Works Department died while trying to assist others after Monday night's storms.

Unadilla Deputy Coroner James Hudson says Public Works Superintendent Rodney Williams died Monday night.

Unadilla city council member Dexter Whittaker says Williams worked for the department for 30 years, and was in his 50s.

Whittaker says Williams was responding to help a woman who needed to be evacuated from her home because of flooding, when he suffered a heart attack.

Whittaker says several roads in Unadilla still have standing water, including Cosby Street, West Avenue, Cary Street, Lee Street behind city hall, Pine Street, and Oak Street.

He says the Unadilla Fire Department evacuated a handful of people from their homes.

He says a boat had to be used to get some people from their trailer homes.
