The Georgia National Fair in Perry is in full effect this week and that got one viewer thinking. William wrote to us and asked, "Why doesn't the Georgia National Fair bring in performers that are African American? For as long as I can remember the performers have been all white."
This year's performers include Montgomery Gentry and Rodney Atkins, both white country performers. The fair's Director of Communications, Michele Treptow, says country has proved a big success.
"We've had great sell outs with Brooks and Dunn, Toby Keith, Alan Jackson. Alabama sold out three times, that's just phenomenal for us. Then Sugarland last year set all new records for everything."
The Reeves Arena has 8,000 and she says other kinds of music have left many of them empty.
"We've tried other acts, other diversities, black entertainment and Christian music and they just haven't sold well," she said.
The crowds didn't pour in for Brian McKnight in 1998 or for Monica the next year. People we talked to had differing opinions about the recent lack of other genres.
"I think it should be a little bit more diverse, because not everyone really likes country. I know I'm one of them," said Andrew Maller from Atlanta.
"It is mostly country, but you have to look at what your audience is. Most of the audience prefers country," said Brionna June of College Park.
"They should have like more rap and R&B and rock. Some good stuff like that," said Dominique Miller from Clayton County.
Treptow says if you want to get into the groove, you have a chance at the smaller stage outside.
"We've had The Tams the first five days of the fair and they were rockin' and rollin' out here last night!" she said.
But it looks like the boot scoot and boogy still rules the Reeves Arena.
