Two women died, but an eight-month-old survived a head-on crash on Highway 247 near Kathleen Friday night.

A news release from the Houston County sheriff's office says it happened around 6:30 p.m. Friday, about 100 yards south of Beaver Creek Road.

The news release from Lt. M.J. Stokes says a 2001 Honda Accord driven by 29-year-old Valona Jo Wright of Hawkinsville crossed the center line. It struck a 1999 Nissan Altima driven by Sue Ann Bray of Ellijay.

the cars collided head-on, and both women died at the scene, Stokes wrote.

An eight-month-old, in the front passenger seat of Wright's car, survived and was released to his father after being treated at Perry Hospital.

The sheriff's department says they're investigating whether alcohol or drugs helped cause the accident.

The wreck closed Highway 247 for more than two hours.
