Congressman Jim Marshall voted against the health care bill that passed the house Saturday night with 220 votes saying yes and 215 representatives voting against the measure.
Marshall, who is a "blue dog" Democrat, is concerned about how the United States will pay for the bill, yet he says Congress will work out a solution to health care.
"Costs are through the roof," Marshall said. "I think we can expand access, maybe improve quality but maintain quality and control costs if we head in a slightly different direction."
Marshall did say that he thinks the 2,000-page bill will give access to health care for people who didn't have it before, and that he favors that initiative.
The Senate will now tackle the measure. President Barack Obama says he would like to sign the new legislation by the end of the year.
Here is how the rest of the Central Georgia delegation voted on the bill Saturday night:
- Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Savannah) - against
- Rep. Sanford Bishop (D-Albany) - for
- Rep. John Barrow (D-Athens) - against
You will have the opportunity to talk to Marshall later on this week when he hosts a town hall meeting Thursday night. It will be held at Macon City Hall from 6 until 8 p.m.
