MIAMI (AP) -- Casey Anthony's attorney says he originally considered whether she should plead guilty to a lesser charge to avoid the death penalty if convicted of murdering her 2-year-old daughter Caylee.

SLIDESHOW: Casey Anthony Trial

Attorney Jose Baez writes in his just-released book "Presumed Guilty, Casey Anthony: The Inside Story," that prosecutors offered Anthony a plea deal in 2008. But Anthony adamantly insisted she had nothing to do with the toddler's death.

Today is the one-year anniversary of Anthony's acquittal.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Baez says in those early days, he thought taking the plea deal might be in Anthony's best interest. But Anthony "would not entertain it for a second."

Prosecutors claimed Anthony suffocated Caylee with duct tape so she could spend time with her boyfriend and take part in Orlando's nightlife.

Baez declined to comment on what Anthony is doing these days and how often he talks to her.
