Report: State dinners cost $200,000 or more

State dinners generate big tabs.

CBS News, using information from the State Department Office of Protocol, reports that the costs of President Obama's first five state dinners ranged from just more than $200,000 to just less than $575,000.

The list, per Mark Knoller of CBS News:

Nov. 24, 2009 -- State dinner for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of India. $572,187.36.

May 19, 2010 -- State dinner for President Felipe Calderon of Mexico. $563,479.92.

Jan. 19, 2011 -- State dinner for President Hu Jintao of China. $412,329.73.

June 7, 2011 -- State dinner for Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany. $215,883.36.

Oct. 13, 2011 -- State dinner for President Lee Myung-bak of South Korea. $203,053.34.

Note that the costs went down after each dinner.

The State Department did not provide information for Obama's sixth major dinner, the March 14, 2012, event to honor British Prime Minister David Cameron.

Obama hosts another state dinner Monday for French President Francois Hollande.
