A viewer wrote to 13WMAZ asking, "My children would like to visit a working animal farm. Are there any in Houston, Bibb, or close by surrounding counties?"
13WMAZ's Amy Aubert fished for wildlife locations, and found one farm that offers more than cows, horses, and pigs.
It's no zoo, these animals are just some who call the farm at Dauset Trails home.
Director Ike English says the mud lovers and some of their furry friends can be some of the best teachers.
"I think it's extremely important that these kids see the animals. A lot of kids live in cities and suburbs that really isn't an ideal for the animals. They can come here and see the animals themselves," says English.
But English says the working animal farm is only part of the 12 hundred acre non-profit.
"The wild animals that are on display here are either injured or orphaned. They're non-releasable, they can't survive on their own in the wild. So we have them here to educate people about them," he says.
English says more than 30 miles of trails stretch through dozens of animals' habitats.
And back down on the farm people can walk away with a lesson learned.
Dauset trails is free to the public.
