If you're in the market for some fix-ups, you may be looking for a handy company to help you out.
A viewer wrote to us asking how to research a company before hiring them.
Central Georgia Better Business Bureau President and CEO Kelvin Collins says researching a company before hiring them is crucial.
"Do the research before you are ever even thinking about the service," he says, "And that way when a storm comes through, your roof is damaged, air conditioning unit goes out, you already know who you're gonna call."
Collins says you can request a report on the company from the Better Business Bureau.
You can get a hard copy or check it out online.
He plugged in a roofing company on the site.
"It tells you that this is an A+ company, they're a BBB-accredited business, it tells you how long they've been accredited," he says, reading the monitor.
He says on their site you can also find the accreditation standards and how a company got the score they did.
He says the BBB should be your first research stop, then he says to ask friends and family what they've heard.
"After that, when you're talking to the company, ask them for references. People that they've used. Then actually call those people and ask, 'Were you satisfied with the work? Were they timely? Did they clean up after themselves? Or did you find nails in the tires for weeks afterwards?'"
