State to probe mysterious deaths of donkeys

CAIRO, Ga. (AP) - State officials plan to investigate the mysterious deaths of donkeys in separate areas of a south Georgia county.

WALB-TV reports that four donkeys were discovered dead in a two-week period in Grady County.

Michelle Hudson says she was hurt and confused after finding two of her nine pet donkeys dead on their property on New Year's Day.

Grady County Road Superintendent Steve Elkins says authorities have found at least three other donkeys dead in other parts of the county in recent days. He said those animals were found dead along Higden Road and along Cabin Lane.

The Georgia Department of Agriculture plans to quarantine Hudson's donkeys to determine what might have led to the deaths.

Grady County is about 50 miles south of Albany and just across the Florida line.
