A fire that destroyed a vacant home in Payne City this morning was probably arson, a fire investigator said
The fire started at 172 Gardner St. just before 7 a.m.
Deputy Fire Chief Cliff Rushin says by the time fire crews got to the scene, the house was almost destroyed. He says they focused their attention on two adjacent houses that had started to catch fire.
He said no one was injured.
Fire investigator Ben Gleaton said the house was under renovation and there were no utilities in service. He said that leads him to believe the fire was probably set.
Supervisor Roberta Gouin with the Macon Police Department says firefighters used several engines to pump water on the flames.
