A legendary Central Georgia football coach received an honor from Bibb County this afternoon, an honor big enough to stop traffic.

Coach Billy Henderson Interchange was unveiled today at the crossroads of I-75 and Sardis Church Road. Coach Henderson served as a baseball coach and state championship football coach here in Macon at the Willingham School in the 1960s -70s.

He also coached at Mount de Sales and Valdosta before he went on to retire as head football coach and athletic director at Clarke Central in Athens with more than 220 wins on the grid iron. It was a day that Henderson says he was honored to share with family, friends and former team members who he coached.

Henderson, a member of the Macon and Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, was also a four-time letterman at UGA in both baseball and football. Henderson is now retired living in Athens.
