A botched passing attempt on Highway 242 in Sandersville resulted in the death of a Tennille woman, the Washington County deputy coroner said.

Deputy Coroner Mark Hodges said 24-year-old Shondrica Womble was riding in an SUV with five others when the driver tried to go around the vehicle in front of them.

The driver lost control, ran off the road, and rolled the vehicle. Womble, sitting in the back seat, died of blunt force trauma, according to Hodges. The other four passengers were transported to a hospital in Augusta. Hodges said he wasn't sure of the specific injuries to each passenger, but he did say there were fractures, head injuries, cuts, and bruises.

Hodges said the only person in the SUV wearing a seat belt was the driver.

Womble and the others in the SUV had just left a club outside Sandersville, according to the deputy coroner.

He said the driver was not under the influence of alcohol.

He says the Georgia State Patrol in Milledgeville is investigating the accident.
