Wednesday, Macon mayor Robert Reichert declared Russell Henley Day.

It's an honor the macon native earned by coming in 16th this summer at the U.S. Open.

"It was one of the best weeks of my life when it comes to the crowd and stuff and they were lovin me and i was lovin them," Henley said.

Three rotary clubs in Macon showed the love for the golfer.

Henley fielded questions about his experience at Pebble Beach, saying he enjoyed the experience because he grew up hearing his dad, Dr. Chapin Henley, talk about the organization as a member.

The kid who's making a name for himself on the PGA Tour says playing in a Grand Slam was like living a dream; now, a couple of months later, folks still want to relive those special memories with him.

"[The pressure] really wasn't as bad for some reason. I felt like it didn't really matter how I played because everybody was going to cheer for me anyway; it was a pretty cool feeling," Henley said.

Henley made national news when he chose a child to caddy for him in a practice round.

He says he thinks more golfers should get kids involved in the game by giving them once in a lifetime oppourtunities.

Henley will head back to the University of Georgia for the fall semester this weekend after receiving a proclamation from the mayor's office commemorating the occasion in Macon.
