An inmate at Central State Prison died after a fight with at least two other inmates, according to Craig Rotter, special agent in charge of the GBI's Perry office.
Rotter says the fight was reported around 3:40 p.m. Monday at the south Bibb County prison.
Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said the inmate was pronounced dead around 5 p.m.
Rotter would not release the inmate's name or describe his injuries.
He said the GBI is still investigating the cause of the fight, but he said they don't believe any weapons were used.
A state Department of Corrections spokeswoman had no further information on the death.
Jones said an autopsy will be performed Wednesday.
