In what could only be described as a once-in-a-lifetime coincidence, a Macon man with a famous name has won a pile of cash.
On the day after Independence Day 2012, George Washington became $25,000 richer.
He chopped his way to the winnings after playing the Red Hot Cherries scratch off from the Georgia Lottery.
51-year-old Washington purchased the winning ticket at the Broadway Food Mart in Macon, a city famously known for its annual blossoming of cherry trees.
George Washington shares the same name as the first president of the United States -- who is widely believed to have chopped down a cherry tree as a child. When asked by an elder about the fate of the fabled tree, Washington (the president) supposedly said he could not tell a lie, and 'fessed up to the act.
Washington (the lotto winner) told the Georgia Lottery he doesn't have any immediate plans to invest in a cherry orchard.
