Bibb County school Supt. Romain Dallemand says Brenda Davis-Jones is no longer his choice for campus police chief.
That's according to an email he sent to Bibb school board members Friday afternoon:
He wrote:
"As a result of issues that have surfaced over the past week, I have decided not to offer Mrs. Brenda Davis-Jones a contract as Chief of Police. I will keep you informed of any future developments."
On July 19, Dallemand recommended that the school board hire Davis-Jones, and they approved his recommendation.
Later, the board posted Davis-Jones' name as part of a list of new administrators for the 2012-13 school year.
School spokesman Donnie Porter would not comment on why Dallemand changed course on her hiring, but says the district never made her a contract offer. She is no longer a candidate for the job, he said.
He would not comment on what issues arose in the past week.
But since the 19th, Bibb County activists have circulated information about Davis-Jones, a former Macon police officer who became campus chief at Fort Valley State University and then police chief in Pine Bluff, Ark.
That includes published reports of a no-confidence vote against her by Pine Bluff officers and a near-riot on Fort Valley State's campus on Election Night 2008.
