A new fiberglass bear makes its debut in Tattnall Square Park Wednesday after the first one was vandalized a year ago.

Part of the College Hill Bear Trail, this fiber glass bear reigns at the corner of Coleman Ave. and Adams Street across from Mercer University's campus.

Macon Arts Communications Director Jonathan Dye says it took a year to replace the bear due to a few factors. They were waiting on the artist's schedule to clear, having the money to replace the bear and then having an automotive clear-coat put on the bear.

Once the bear was finished with an automotive grade clear-coat, donated by Youmans Chevrolet, Parks and Recreation received the bear and then they were able to install the bear Wednesday.

Artist Connie Redd painted a new bear after the original was vandalized in November 2011.

Dye says she changed the design from the original bear in Tattnall Square.
