Bibb County Commission chairman says he's running for mayor of the combined Macon and Bibb County consolidated government.
He made the announcement official at a Wednesday morning press conference in downtown Macon.
"We've got some healing to do in our community," Hart said. "I think the consolidation piece, the piece that relates to nonpartisan elections, all those things have got the potential of tearing our community apart. You need somebody who can help bring our community together."
Mayor Robert Reichert told his department heads he plans to run. He made it official Wednesday afternoon during an interview with 13 WMAZ.
"We've made the decision to run for mayor of the consolidated government," Reichert said. "But we have not made an official announcement yet or formal announcement to that effect."
Reichert said the announcement would be coming soon. "We're still trying to find the appropriate time, llocations and people."
Also in the race is former mayor C. Jack Ellis.
David Cousino, who ran for both mayor and county commission, is also expected to run for mayor.
Voters are scheduled to pick a mayor and county commission for the new merged city-county government in July.
Qualifying will happen this spring.
