Members of the Bibb County Board of Education named Susanne Griffin-Ziebart, Deputy Superintendent of School Improvement and Redesign, as acting superintendent Thursday night for 30 days or until an interim is picked.
The decision came three days after they voted to buy Romain Dallemand out of his contract for a sum of $350,000.
The news came after a long executive session.
Acting Board Chairwoman Susan Sipe told 13WMAZ that she couldn't go into details on why Griffin-Ziebart was picked. But she did say they are taking the next steps to find a superintendent.
"This board will reconvene again, hopefully early next week where we will actually be sitting down and actually establish the policy and procedure on how we are going to go forward from here," said Sipe.
It was one of several decisions announced tonight. Another involved the approval of a 2013-2014 traditional school calendar with extended breaks.
Members delayed making a decision on a possible year-round 2014-2015 instructional calendar.
They also voted to turn Bibb County schools to a seven-period day. Bibb schools currently follow a four by four period schedule.
