Riverside Drive is closed near the Monroe County line, due to a dump truck accident.
That's according to Lt. Sean Defoe with the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.
Defoe says around 11:10 a.m., a 2013 Chevrolet Impala driven by William Rawlings Maig, of Cairo, attempted to make a u-turn on Riverside Drive just before the county line.
There was a dump truck behind him.
Defoe says the driver of that truck, Robert Van Worthy, Jr., of Lizella, attempted to avoid the Impala, but he lost control of the truck. According to Defoe, the dump truck struck the Impala, then rolled onto its side, spilling a full load of dirt onto the road.
Defoe says it will be another hour or two before crews are able to clean up the dirt and reopen the road.
He says Maig will be ticketed for making an improper u-turn.
He says Van Worthy is currently in stable condition.
