WASHINGTON (AP) -- Students at George Washington University want your old phones. Student organizations on the Washington campus are competing to collect the most used cell phones.
The phones will be recycled and the money will go to fund technology projects in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Nepal. There's something in it for the students, too.
The organization collecting the most phones will get $3,000 from the university. Second and third place are worth two-grand, and $1,000.
The goal is to collect 20,000 old phones and portable electronic devices in a month.
