COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - An 11-year-old boy became inspired by what he learned as part of a running event at the National Infantry Museum & Soldier Center in Columbus, so he embarked on an effort to honor a fallen Marine.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports that Gabe Jones learned about the Marine and other military members while running in the recent children's Soldier Marathon.

All of the participants received the name of a fallen soldier, and the name Gabe received was Marine Lance Cpl. Niall Coti-Sears of Arlington, Va., who was killed in Afghanistan June 23. Gabe saved his allowance, collected donations and earned enough to reach his goal of $250 to buy a commemorative paver honoring the Marine.

It will be dedicated on Memorial Day.
