Jackson, Miss. (Clarion Ledger) -- If red roses, chocolates, a sharp suit and a Valentine-themed pocket square don't make a woman feel safe, a sheriff's badge should seal the deal.
Motorists driving near Beasley Road in Jackson, Mississippi take note of a message from Hinds County Sheriff Tyrone Lewis, who wants to wish his constituents a Happy Valentine's Day via billboard.
"It's an opportunity to give back to the community," Lewis' spokesperson, Othor Cain, said.
Lewis chuckled when asked about the billboard, but referred questions to Cain.
Cain said Lewis' billboards have celebrated a number of different holidays. They also serve to increase the presence of Lewis and the Sheriff's Department.
In the past, Lewis has used campaign finance funds to pay for the billboards, but he now pays for them out of his own pocket, Cain said.
