John Barrow at 2010 campaign event
SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - U.S. Rep. John Barrow isn't waiting for Georgia election officials to declare who will be his Republican challenger in the fall election.
The Democratic congressman from Augusta launched a campaign ad Tuesday that attacks Republican contender Lee Anderson.
However, Anderson of Grovetown isn't officially the GOP nominee. Unofficial returns show he finished an Aug. 21 primary runoff just 154 votes ahead of fellow Republican Rick W. Allen. Dozens of military and overseas absentee ballots could still count if they're received by the end of Friday.
Secretary of State Brian Kemp plans to certify official results next week. Allen has said he plans to ask for a recount.
Barrow's ad says Anderson supports budget cuts that would mean painful reductions to Medicare and Social Security. Anderson's campaign did not immediately comment.
