Hershey, PA (Sports Network) - Medalist Lisa Schlesinger cruised in the first
round of match-play Monday at the U.S. Women's Senior Amateur Championship.
Schlesinger trounced Teresa Cleland, 5 & 4, and will face Mary Jane Hiestand
in Tuesday's second round. Hiestand bested Peggy Brady, 1-up, to set up her
match with the medalist.
Schlesinger was 1-down after four holes, but squared the match with a win at
the par-3 fifth. Schlesinger went on a run to put the match out of reach with
wins at eight, nine, 11 and 13. When she won the 15th, it was over and
Schlesinger was on to round two.
Defending champion Terri Frohnmayer fell to Sandra Woodruff, 4 & 2.
Mina Hardin, who won in 2010 and lost to Frohnmayer in last year's final,
advanced with a 3 & 2 victory over Connie Shorb on Monday.
Diane Lang, a 3-time winner, fell to Lynda Case, 1-up on Monday.
