Hoylake, England (Sports Network) - Jiyai Shin won her second Women's British Open in record fashion on a long Sunday at Royal Liverpool.

Shin shot a final-round, 1-over 73, but it was still enough for a 9-shot victory, which is a new tournament record since the event became a major championship in 2001.

Shin was the only player under par after this demanding test. She came in at 9-under 279 and earned her second LPGA Tour title in less than a week. Shin and Paula Creamer needed to finish a playoff at the Kingsmill Championship on Monday when Shin prevailed.

It meant the two got to Royal Liverpool a day late.

Imagine what she could've done if Shin would've arrived on time?

The title was her 10th on tour and she obliterated Karen Stupples' margin of victory record by four strokes.

Shin, and the whole field, had to battle the conditions, which resurfaced on Sunday.

Friday's action was canceled due to wind that reached 60 mph. The field played the second round on Saturday and the lucky low 50 and ties had to play 36 on Sunday.

As soon as the last threesome teed off in the final round, the skies opened. The wind picked up, it rained sideways and scores reflected the conditions. Shin opened the final round with a triple-bogey at No. 1, but her lead shrunk by just a stroke since Karrie Webb, her closest competitor after round three, doubled the hole the group before.

The weather subsided, but just as the final group reached the ninth hole, it poured again. Play was stopped for just eight minutes and all that did was make it a race to finish in sunlight.

Shin didn't. Under dark skies, Shin tapped in for par on the 18th to put her name in the record books.

Inbee Park, this year's Evian Masters champion, birdied the last to shoot a 4- over 76 and get second at even par.

Creamer enjoyed the lowest final round, an even-par 72. That was enough to get her third place at plus-1.

Mika Miyazato managed a 5-over 77 in round four and took fourth at 2-over par.

Webb shot an 82 and fell into a share of fifth with So Yeon Ryu, who carded a 5-over 77. The pair finished at 3-over.
