BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) - Brunswick's city manager is adding a new role to his duties as he excavates a Colonial-era cemetery recently discovered in the city along Georgia's coast.
The Florida Times-Union reports that the city had contemplated hiring an archaeology firm to handle the work before City Manager Bill Weeks offered his services.
Weeks says he's already done archaeology work on cemeteries in South Carolina.
Weeks, assisted by the city's Public Works Department, could get to work this week if weather permits.
The cemetery, which had been lost to history for more than two centuries, was recently discovered at the site of a former middle school.
