The Macon-Bibb County consolidation task force's finance committee made their first suggestions Wednesday.

Tom Ellington, chairman of the Appropriations Committee on Macon City Council and also a finance team member, told 13WMAZ that the group has officially recommended that a newly merged government should retain their current auditors, Mauldin & Jenkins.

Additionally, the committee members were in agreement that both the city and county should complete their mid-year audits by June 30, 2013 and the final closeouts should be conducted no later than January 1, 2014.

Ellington said the committee's first task is to, "Build the budget for the transition team." Finance members have requested the four other committees submit budget requests. Those committees include, facilities, human resources, laws and technology.

During the morning session, The Middle Georgia Regional Commission was approved as fiscal agent for the task force, Ellington confirmed.

The group plans to meet again next Wednesday, October 3rd. Ellington said he didn't think there would be much on the agenda until they received the requested budget requests.
