JONESBORO, Ga. (AP) - Residents of one Georgia county are watching nervously as their public schools face the possibility of losing accreditation for the second time in four years.
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools says the school system in Clayton County could have its accreditation revoked again because of infighting among school board members and other concerns. The county lost $20 million in funding when it lost accreditation in 2008.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the latest warnings have residents worried. Charmeca Jenkins, who has three children in Clayton County schools, says she can't believe school officials would "be that stupid twice."
Karen Koschel, manager of a school supply store, says she worries a new accreditation loss will hurt sales like the last one did.
