A small caliber handgun was found inside a locked car in the Rutland High School parking lot Friday, a Bibb County Schools news release says.

Administrators responded to a report of a weapon on campus around 10 a.m.

Campus police approached an 18-year-old female student who then gave them permission to search the vehicle.

The Rutland student has been charged with felony possession of a weapon on school grounds and was taken to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.
