Perry Police Captain Heath Dykes says Perry Middle School was on lockdown Tuesday morning.

He says officers were looking for two men who stole a vehicle and a trailer from Cordele. Dykes says the middle school was only on lockdown for a couple of hours as a precaution.  

The men got off Interstate 75 at exit 138 for Thompson Road near Perry Middle School. 

Dykes says police chased the car to the utility services building, across the street from a convenience store.  

That's when the car ran through a gate and struck a utility pole. The two men then got out of the car and fled.

Dykes says they are still searching for the two men, but there's no reason to believe they are dangerous.
