Hundreds of people gathered at the Centreplex in Macon to honor voices that took the airwaves by storm.

"I started in radio many many eons ago, 1960 as a matter of fact when I was in high school," says career achievement inductee Ron O'Quinn.

Fellow lifetime inductee Bill Elder adds, "I started on WMAZ AM when I was 15 and a half years old and then came back to the FM in 1982."

It's the first time the 6th Annual Georgia Radio Hall of Fame Awards celebrated in Macon and the night was all about honoring inductees into the legacy or career achievement category.

The goal is to eventually  honor all the people on Georgia radio.

"The room is filled with conversation that's because it's filled with disc jockeys who never shut up, who are all going to be talking except when they are calling the awards," says Elder.

Inductees have to be nominated by their peers. The board of directors select the legacy; membership select career.

Nine new members were added into the 2012 Georgia Radio Hall of Fame Legacy that also includes some of our own 13WMAZ family, like Mary Stripling who was accepting an award on behalf of Uncle Ned.

"When TV started, he was the opening act for 13WMAZ," Stripling says.
