DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - The DeKalb County Commission has voted to ban smoking at playgrounds, parks and public service lines such as ATMs.
WSB-TV reports that the smoking ban goes into effect on Wednesday a day after the county commission approved a ban.
DeKalb Health Department officials believe smoking in public parks is a hazard.
Some commissioners say they may revisit the issue of banning smoking in bars and restaurants.
Last year, supporters and opponents fought for months on whether to expand the ban to bars and other night clubs, but that never happened.
