ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Police say home invaders told an 89-year-old woman they were inspecting her property for a possible cell tower site before tying her up and robbing her in her Athens home.
Athens-Clarke police Capt. Clarence Holeman says the men are suspected of using the same ruse at other locations in the county. He tells The Athens Banner-Herald that investigators believe they told the same story to other potential victims last week.
In Monday night's home invasion, the woman told police the two men barged into her home and claimed to have a gun. After tying her up, she told police they fled in a van.
Police were looking for the vehicle, described as a white 15-passenger Dodge van that appears to have been converted into a work truck.
