The city of Macon is looking for a new city attorney.
Chris Floore, spokesman for Macon Mayor Robert Reichert told 13WMAZ Friday that Macon's City Attorney Martha "Marty" Welsh is leaving within the month.
The city attorney represents Macon in most legal matters as well as drafting legislation and offering opinions for both the mayor and city council. The attorney also serves as legal counsel for the city's pension boards.
Welsh took the position when city attorney Pope Langstaff retired and went into private practice in 2011.
Floore said, "Her official last date is December 31st, but she will be leaving us after Thanksgiving."
"Having provided 18 years of service to the City of Macon, she will be missed," Floore added.
According to Floore, "Welsh is moving to Asheville, North Carolina where she intends to "explore job possibilities" once she gets there and is settled."
