ATLANTA (AP) - Veterinary officials at Atlanta's zoo have euthanized a clouded leopard following a sharp decline in his health and behavior.

Zoo Atlanta says the veterinary team had been treating 16-year-old Moby for age-related problems for several months. Moby was born in April 1996. He came to Atlanta in June 2004 from the Seneca Park Zoo in Rochester, N.Y.

Like his wild counterparts, Moby was known for his elusiveness. The zoo says Moby sightings were impressive enough to make him one of the zoo's most popular residents.

Because of their secretive nature, little is known about clouded leopard populations in the wild. Native to Southeast Asia, the species faces declines as a result of habitat destruction and hunting for their skins.
