The coaches at the Duck Richardson basketball camp took a time-out from the round ball to have a "hometown" NFL referee mentor the young campers.

Terry Brown, a 1984 graduate of Southwest, was a two sport Patriot standout in football and basketball. After Brown finished a college football career at University of Tennessee, he went on to referee as a white hat in the SEC. He later went on to continue blowing the whistle in the NFL since 2006 as a field judge.

Brown's message to the campers was simple.

"It's not always about where you start but it really is about where you finish", says Brown. "This is a young man who came out of Bird City. You don't have to do anything to be unsuccessful but you have to do alot to be successful."

Brown credits both Edgar Hatcher and Richardson for teaching discipline and helping him become successful.
