The Mercer basketball court played host to a different sport this week:  cheerleading.  Young cheerleaders teamed up with the Bear's squad to work on their skills.

The Mercer staff helped the campers improve their tumbling and stunt work.  The week ended with a special performance for friends and family of the campers.

"We've basically been teaching them some of the cheer we do at gameday," said cheerleader Rayven Kenner. "We've been kind of working on tumbling like cartwheels, forward rolls, and some of them already have their back handsprings."

The camp not only helps the kids, but is fun for the coaches as well.

"My favorite part about doing camps is probably just the interaction with the girls," said cheerleader Mary Cole Geeslin. "It's a confidence booster for not only them, but also us.  It makes us feel really good to know there are other girls that really do want to go out and cheer."
