IRWINTON, Ga.- First Presbyterian Day School senior starting pitcher Jenna Byrd accomplished a rare feat at any level of the game on Tuesday, September 11 on the road at  Wilkinson County High School: throwing a perfect game.

Byrd held Wilkinson County in check all evening as the Vikings (9-7, 1-0) rolled to a 16-0 run-ruling, shutout victory over GHSA Region 7-A opponent in three innings. The win marks the eighth straight for the Vikings.

Byrd, was the story, however. Backed by a solid defense, the Viking hurler sat down six batters while the offense took care of the rest. Byrd struck out Wilkinson's final batter to add a fitting ending to the contest.

The prefect game marks the first according to the FPD softball record books as well.

At the dish, the Vikings were all business, plating all 16 runs in the first three innings. FPD scored four in the first and second innings while crossing home eight times in the third.

A two-run triple by Claire Crawford in the first and a two-run triple by Caitlin Collins in the second fueled the Viking offense along with the spectacular effort from Byrd. Sumner Carlton also recorded two hits in the Viking victory, a single in the first and a triple in the third.

Altogether the Vikings recorded 12 hits on the evening.

The win marks the first victory in the Viking softball program in GHSA Region 7-A.

The Vikings take the diamond again on Thursday, September 14  taking on Region 7-A rival Georgia Military College Prep at 5:00 p.m. at the FPD Softball Complex.
