MACON, Ga.-- Among all the Homecoming festivities this weekend on Mercer's campus was the final scrimmage of the 2012 practice season for the football team.
The Bears hosted over 125 recruits, players' families and select fans on the newly installed turf to see the team in action.
Since their first scrimmage in September, Head Coach Bobby Lamb says his squad has come a long way.
The defense dominated Saturday's scrimmage. The offense had trouble marching down the field and did not get into the endzone until the end of the contest.
"Our defense is a very aggressive style defense," said Lamb. "I really love what we're doing over there."
"We've actually come a very very long way," explained defensive back Andy Nichols. "We've had a couple of meetings where we've talked about what we were doing day one. Not understanding our base packages and that sort of thing. Now, we're blitzing from all over the place."
Mercer will now break down the tape from the scrimmage and put in some time in the weight room over the holidays.
