Signing day was also the theme of the day in Jones County. In front of family, teammates and friends, basketball standout Jarquez Smith has signed to head below the border to Tallahassee and suit up for the Florida State Seminoles.
The 6'9 Senior helped pace the Hounds to a second place finish in the Region 3 Quad A last season and says he is ready for life in ACC basketball.
"I got along with the players better", says Smith. "I had chemistry with the coaches and atmosphere was better, hopefully I'll get better for the NBA."
His coach, Dennis Woolfolk agrees, "He's more focused because he knows what is expected of him to finish here at Jones County", says Woolfolk. "And start his career at Florida State so I'm just proud of him for handling all that pressure and moving on in a positive direction."
Smith lines up as Center for the Greyhounds but will play small forward at the next level.
