MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Georgia College welcomed Flagler College to the Centennial Center Thursday evening for a basketball doubleheader. The Bobcat women took out the Saints in overtime 59-51, while the Bobcat men dropped a 60-58 heartbreaker.
The GC women brought a six-game win streak into the game, while the Saints had dropped three straight. The Saints would start the game hot, jumping to a 12-0 lead in the opening minutes, but the Bobcats would pull within one at 28-27 heading into the half.
The second half would prove to be just as close, with the teams ending regulation at a 49-49 tie. The Bobcats would pull away in overtime, ending the game with a 59-51 victory. Shanteona Keys (Roswell, Ga.) led the Bobcats with 18 points, including the shot that sent the game into overtime. The Saints were led offensively by Williesha Spencer who scored 17 points in 23 minutes of action. The Bobcat women improve to 5-0 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play, 9-3 overall.
The men's matchup would prove to be just as evenly matched, with the two teams swapping blows until the final seconds. Ante Gospic hit two free-throws for the Saints with five seconds remaining to seal the 60-58 loss for the Bobcats. Gospic led the Saints with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Scott Ferguson (Roswell, Ga.) set the pace for the Bobcats, finishing with 18 points and nine rebounds. The Bobcat men even out to 6-6 overall with a 2-3 PBC mark.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Jan. 12 at 1:30 p.m. traveling to Young Harris College.
